Brownie burn...

Late in the day swim report, Tuesday, 3 but really closer to 4:
Loli was too sick to make our noon swim date, I was too disappointed (lazy) to hunt for a partner, I decided to stay home and clean my car (eat brownies) when Janie and Diana texted me to come swim! Oh man, those brownies needed to be dealt with so I raced over to sun, a lovely sea with big lazy rollers and Howie in a thong. Well, almost a thong, he may be worried about drag or something. But, the swim dudes are not shy, we all know this. We launch for a fairly fast swim to the A then the B, across to the 'pink' house which was downhill making us all believe we were super speedy and back in. Janie turned on her little after burners at this point, she blazed in like a rocket. Diana and I played in the cove for awhile, it was so clear the Garibaldi looked ultra neon.
My watch read 65 and 66, no viz although we did see two ghostly bat rays gliding near the swim channel, Janie saw a ghostly fried egg jelly. Such a beautiful and unexpected swim for me, I'm so happy I went, so happy that my mermaid friends thought of me and lured me out to burn off the brownies. Unfortunately, brownies are one step forward and two steps back these days, one swim is not enough. Brownie fat is hard core, it does not f**k around so I must press on. Everyone, keep luring me!
Thanks to my beautiful partners, thanks to Howie in his teeny tiny's!

sheepshead a go go.

swim report, tuesday, 11:30 but really 12:15 because you know how we are...  claudia, cami, lftc swam out in utterly flat seas, grey as slate, sky too. the cove was very clear, crystal clear aquarium and 66 degrees. still hard to get in though, it's exquisite torture. we swam towards the caves, it was so-so clear but not 'good enough' for us because you know how we are..i bragged about the 'freedom swim' on sunday, i suggested we swim thataway for adventure but the cove around take off was glorious to behold, clear to the floor. there was not much swimming going as much as gliding. my find today was a beautiful sheepshead, black and grey and black with red hues and white eyes, we chased him around while he snacked and it was time to go in. we needed snacks too because you know how we are...i could live this way: swim and eat with some laying around thrown in for good measure.
people, listen to me for i know what you need; go swim. before or after work or go in late, call in with that nasty peanut allergy acting up or as cami i discussed today, get off the grid. go swim tuesday and wednesday, thursday things are looking iffy. go, go now!

if i were to get off the grid, the thing i'd do is wear these
every day.

overheard in the water today...

"Okay, someone said that it's clearish over near boomers.  so let's swim that way."  "i'm goin in now, 'cause i gotta pee."  "a sea star! Is it blue or is it the water making it look blue?"  "no it's really blue."
"what's that over there?"  "a lobster trap floater"  "oh my gosh, there's 2 lobsters in the trap!" "and a crab.  poor crab."  "but it's not lobster season.  let's free them."  "the trap door won't stay open.  how can we get them out?"  "i can't hold me breath long enough to tie the door open."  "the crab is out!  YAY!  but the lobsters are stuck in the labyrinth."  "we just witnessed a crime.  those guys launched that boat from the beach.  the life guards rode up with their little lights flashing, and ..."  "a horn shark swam right underneath emily!"  "really?!!!"  "where are bill, cary and emily?  oh they're still trying to get those lobsters free.  let's swim to the A."  "hey guys!  we got one of the lobsters free!"  "2 out of 3 ain't bad."  "what a great Free Willy kind of moment."  "i'm going back to the A."  "we're going in."  "i'm going to the caves."  "wow this is a beautiful day to swim."

a lazy swim report with the added bonus of marginally correct weather news (for those who have no idea), low grade surf hysteria, wildly divergent conditions info and mostly inaccurate water temps: here we go-some of us have swam, some have not, some of us swam together just as god intended and some have swam solo, all lone wolf style. (tftc perhaps?) some of stayed with the no pants way and some stayed in pants due to delicate constitutions. some of us come from 'a hard people' stock, some of us clearly were royalty somewhere down the lineage.
the weather has been gearing up for summer with some icky cold days thrown in to remind us that we are not in charge, we weakly mortals.
there has been surf; big surf, little surf, in between surf, homisurf, surficide, meet your maker surf and body surf. i stayed away from all of it but watched from the web cam.
conditions; oh my god clear & calm and oh shit, it's gross, what is this stuff? and everything in between. conditions varied greatly depending on where you were, who you were with and most importantly, who was telling the tale. also, some of us have very low standards and will swim in almost anything so the report is highly relevant to the tale teller.
my tough little timex is still working overtime on reading temps which have ranged from 54 to 65. 54 being brutal winter siberia cold and today's hot 65.
most importantly, our crew swam all winter, almost everyone! i credit our group mentality and dedication (or utter desperation for safety in numbers) to stick with it, the begging and guilt trips are to be noted too. let's not forget the blatant bragging, cruel emails and texts about the'best swim evar' either. i never will.
of note: we must ask bill about his 'shoulder injury' which was totally wrecking his groove last week. seriously, his solo swim to the b was rough!  he can never again claim any injury as an excuse, he has to be missing a limb to escape us. cary said so.
so there you have it people: a lazy swim report and so on and so on...
i look forward to summer swims with the best swim partners, one and all!

Tuesday swim

Tuesday swim. Wow, this is the first post in May.  What slackers we've become!
The cove is making a beautiful entrance into spring.  This week we've got sunny skies, warming water and generally good conditions.  I swam solo at 10:45 a.m. to the A, B thru the cave and back.  I'd put the temp below 64, and the NOAA website shows a dip in water temp around this time of day.  But still a fabulous, sunny swim.
The Big Chill swim party on Saturday was also fun and well attended.  I like the water conditions wrap up speech that Doug gave.  I like to hear what all I missed during the winter : )   Laura wasn't there but her name was mentioned:   she was credited for a couple of new vocab terms: "surficide" and "homisurf" due to the crazy big swell that rolled in during February.  I believe petitioning Webster's is our next step.
